Lanzarote

Lanzarote, one of the seven Canary Islands, is renowned for its crystal clear waters and dramatic coastline. Located just off the West African coast, this small yet impressive island has been voted one of the top ten places in Europe to go diving, thanks to the protected marine life abundant on its shores.

Through charming rural villages to breathtaking volcanic regions, Lanzarote can be covered from North to South in approximately one and a half hours by car, making it an ideal place to discover and explore. Alternatively, you can relax and enjoy our sunny climate on its diverse range of beaches, or treat yourself to some high street shopping in one of the three most popular holiday resorts.

Upon arrival on this remarkable island, you will find yourself in Arrecife, the new capital of Lanzarote. From here you can easily make your way to each of the resorts - Costa Teguise, Puerto Del Carmen, or Playa Blanca.

Costa Teguise is an affordable resort, with a great variety of restaurants and cafes to enjoy during your stay. It is purpose built for tourism and is the most family friendly of all the tourist centres, with plenty to see and do for all ages. There are two beaches in the town, one larger with a variety of watersport activities, and one smaller, cuter beach which is protected from the wind and ideal for snorkelling by the rocks.

Puerto Del Carmen is the liveliest of the towns, and is ideally located in the centre of the resorts. With over 300 bars and restaurants along its promenade, here you can enjoy entertainment throughout the night, and shop until you drop during the day with the Biosfera shopping centre. The old town harbour is traditional and quaint, with a fabulous array of tapas bars and fish restaurants, contrasting to the excitement of the main strip, where you can immerse yourself in the buzz of restaurants, cafes, bars, shopping centres, and nightclubs.

There are several beaches along the front of the town, the largest being Playa Grande, where you can find many water activities including a total-wipeout style inflatable obstacle course out at sea.

Playa Blanca is located in the south of the island. Traditionally a Canarian fishing harbour, the town has expanded over time into the vibrant holiday resort that you see today. You can experience a life of luxury whilst browsing the boutique stores of the Rubicon Marina, or walk until your heart is content to the top of the resident volcano in the area, Montana Roja.

Along the promenade there are several beaches, the most popular being Dorada, where you can enjoy jet ski rides and pedalo boats during our hot sunny days. The Papagayo beaches are also located close by, for those who fancy getting away from it all and relaxing in one of its natural picturesque coves.

Between 1730 and 1736, massive volcanic eruptions moulded the island that we know and love today. Lanzarote's most famous attraction, the Timanfaya National Park, is located in the south of the island and is a must visit during your stay. You can take a tour around this unique and special area to see the lava fields and dramatic red craters. From the top of the fire mountain, you can take in some fantastic views across the entire park.

El Golfo, a small fishing village can also be found in the area, along with Yaiza (Voted the cleanest town in Spain), and La Geria, where you can try some typical Lanzarote wine in one of the rural farm-house bodegas.

As you make your way towards the north of the island, you will come across Caleta De Famara, famous for surfing and bodyboarding. The beaches here are outlined by enormous and towering cliff edges, where you can look out over to our neighbouring island of La Graciosa and appreciate views over both Lanzarote and Fuerteventura.
Cesar Manrique, our most famous and beloved architect, artist, sculpture, and visionary, wanted to ensure that Lanzarote could be experienced in its most traditional and typical form. His unrivalled ability to mix authentic rural charm with touristic demand is one of the many things that makes Lanzarote so unique. It is thanks to Manrique that there are no advertising billboards on the side of the roads, and all of the buildings are white and two stories high or less to help maintain our picture perfect landscape. Some examples of his work can be found in the north of the island.

Mirador Del Rio (View of the river) is a cafe like no other. Subtly built into the cliff edge to preserve Lanzarote's natural beauty, the panoramic views over to La Graciosa must be seen to be believed.

Lava-carved underground tunnels where the Canarians used to hide from pirates can be found in the area, by the name of Cueva De Los Verdes. Now a tourist attraction, you can enjoy a guided tour through these caves to witness the dramatic effect that the lava has had on the island.

Jameos Del Agua is another must see in the region. A subterranean lava cave, this peaceful and beautiful cavern is one of the only places on earth where you can see the very rare blind albino crabs, said to have risen into the cave during the very first eruptions in the area.

Lanzarote is ideal for walking, cycling, surfing, and sailing due to its impressive scenery, warm sunny climate, and crystal clear protected waters. With over 100 impressive volcanoes, beautiful sandy beaches, and promenades abundant in high quality bars and restaurants, there really is something on this small and unique island for everyone.

We look forward to welcoming you here soon!
